Kim Kardashian West Is Joining Instagram And Facebook Freezing Protest
Kim Kardashian West is among the celebrity who enjoys a huge fan following. Kim Kardashian said that she would be joining in a protest against Facebook and Instagram for it’s handling of misinformation and hate. She won’t post to her account for 24 hours to protest Facebook and Instagram.
The reality TV star tweeted her plans to freeze both her Instagram and Facebook accounts tomorrow because she can’t “sit by and stay silent while these platforms continue to allow the spreading of hate, propaganda, and misinformation.”
She’s joining a planned week of action organized by Stop Hate For Profit, a coalition dedicated to holding social media companies “accountable for hate on their platforms.”
"I love that I can connect directly with you through Instagram and Facebook, but I can't sit by and stay silent while these platforms continue to allow the spreading of hate, propaganda, and misinformation," Kardashian West wrote.
“Misinformation shared on social media has a serious impact on our elections and undermines our democracy,” Kardashian West added, urging people to join her in logging off Facebook and Instagram for the day.
Other high-profile users who are taking part in this protest are Jennifer Lawrence, Orlando Bloom, Kerry Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Sacha Baron Cohen, and several others. The move is part of the #StopHateforProfit campaign which was organized by civil rights activists.
