Raj Tarun is struggling to deliver another a hit of late. He has stuck in an image trap. To be back in the league, he has teamed up with a new woman director.
Has this young director succeeded in giving Raj Tarun much-needed new image? Let's find out.
Raju (Raj Tarun) is a youngster who runs a supermarket. He is a kleptomania and this puts him in embarrassing situations in life many times and several women have walked out when they come to know his chori.
One day, he meets a beautiful girl Thanvi and series of incidents bring them together and they fall in love.
Thanvi's father also likes Raju but he puts a condition that Raju should stay for some days at his father's house in Ramapuram village. Thanvi's grandfather cuts off a thief's hands when the villagers catch him.
Can Raju survive here when the grandfather knows that he is a kleptomania?
Raj Tarun has done his usual best in the role of a guy who has kleptomania. He has tried to generate laughs with his act but has not succeeded much.
Amrya is pretty average on acting side and her character is poorly written. Rajendra Prasad does over-action.
Prudhvi as scientist-doctor fails to provide laughs. Praveen as Raj Tarun's side-kick is good. Nagineedu is okay.
The film is shot with decent production and technical values. Gopi Sunder has provided two catchy songs. Camera work is neat.
The editing in the second half goes completely wrong. The dialogues are pretty ordinary.
Unbearable final sequences
Director Maruthi has made a trend by making movies wherein protagonist suffers from a rare non-fatal disease. "Bhale Bhale Magadivoy" (memory problem) and "Mahanubhavudu" (OCD) are best examples.
As they have become hits, new director Sanjana Reddy has come up with kleptomania for her maiden movie "Raju Gadu".
According to the rolling titles, the story idea is also given by Maruthi. However, she has failed to add anything new to brand of Maruthi's concepts other than telling it with outdated jokes.
In the entire first half, there is only one hilarious scene: when Praveen tries to open fly of a guy thinking he was opening the wallet of a guy. Of course, this is in poor taste but at least it has made laugh out loud for a moment in this drab and outdated movie.
The story itself is such clumsy one. A village landlord cuts off hands of a thief for stealing some food and all villagers accept it as if he is a Supreme Court judge. With such old-fashioned scenes and situations, Sanjana Reddy has tried to engage us.
The entire first half is about Raj Tarun and Amrya falling in love. Post-interval, the movie moves to another story within the story. And towards the pre-climax, it moves to another direction with more illogical sequences and more subplots.
By the time the film reaches to the end, the audiences would be fully exhausted with all these stories and outdated scenes. Many of the sequences remind us 70's and 80's era movies.
Raj Tarun who shot to fame with back-to-back hits is now picking up illogical plots and bringing his image down himself. This one completely tests the patience.
The new female director has not shown any mark of intelligence or creativity in the entire show.
Bottom-line: Stale and Stereotype!
