Facebook is facing controversies and privacy scandals, losing customers and being a target of their outrage. In India, it is having a problem with WhatsApp, its messenger app.
Hoax messages can be easily and widely spread on WhatsApp, resulting in more than 12 lynchings attributed to WhatsApp.
Child abduction rumors have been spreading on WhatsApp and it has caused a mob killing 2 weeks ago, even after WhatsApp launched new security features.
WhatsApp started to label the content red color as part of the new feature launched last week to warn the users that link suspicious and to proceed with caution.
It also launched 4 new security features over the past month to improve the security, specifically aimed at the mass messages. It is also going to restrict the number of groups/users a message can be forwarded to 5.
Facebook previously had problems with the Indian government with the Free Internet is offered in 2016, that was blocked by the government citing net neutrality reasons and with the elections in India in 2019 and facing problems worldwide, Facebook & WhatsApp doesn’t seem to have any respite soon, having already seen its stock plunge more than 20% over the last 5 days.
