Global Internet Shutting Down in the Next 48 Hours
The stunning news that internet is going to experience network connection failures for the next 48 hours shocked every internet savvy. This is going to happen on Thursday due to the main domain servers and related infrastructure controlling the web will be powered down for some time.
The Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which is responsible for maintaining the registry of domain names and IP addresses, will be changing the cryptographic key that helps protect the Domain Name System (DNS) or the internet’s address book. ICANN decided to do this as it is very important to ensure a secure, stable, and resilient DNS, according to the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA).
“To further clarify, some internet users might be affected if their network operators or Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have not prepared for this change. However, this impact can be avoided by enabling the appropriate system security extensions,” it said.
The Mobile Research Group analyst Eldar Murtazin said that the people are going to face some difficulties in the next 48 hours. There will be issues like slow down of web pages and access to some resources. The people who are using outdated providers may even face internet access issues.
ICANN said that it has already done some preliminary tests that showed the key replacement process would create minimal problems. The specialist in digital economics Arseny Shcheltsin said that the main software has already updated so there is nothing to fear.
Taking the step to change cryptographic keys has become essential due to the raised threats of internet infrastructure.
