Celebrities In Support Of PM's Request
Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked all Indian citizens to switch off their lights at 9 PM on Sunday (today) for 9 minutes and light diyas or mobile flashlights to show the solitude and unity of the people in the country. Impressed with Modi’s idea, many celebrities started supporting him and requested people to do what Modi said.
“Tomorrow #5thApr20 @9PM for 9 minutes, ONLY from the safety of our homes, let us all light lamps to drive away from the darkness and gloom of #Corona. Let us show that we are all united in this fight to save humanity,” Chiru said. “Let’s all light a lamp on April 5th, 9 Pm for 9 minutes to drive the corona darkness away!!” Nagarjuna tweeted.

“On April 5th at 9 PM for 9 minutes, let's switch off lights and light diyas or flashlights to illuminate our shared goal in fighting Coronavirus. Let us thank the people who are working relentlessly during this crisis,” Sai Tej wrote. However, on Saturday, the state electricity boards expressed concern that sudden mass power fluctuations, when millions turn off lights at the same time could lead to power surges.

And so the government said that only lights should be switched off. The lights in hospitals and all other essential services like public utilities, municipal services, offices, police stations, manufacturing facilities, etc will remain on. Also, the government confirmed that there is no call to switch off street lights, computers, fans, fridges, air conditioners, and other appliances.
