England’s Maiden World Cup Win with Super Over Drama

In its final world cup match between England and New Zealand at Lord’s, it was England that came out glorious. After winning the toss New Zealand’s skipper Kane Williamson decided to bat first, following the pursuit of toss winning team batting first in this world cup.

The start was good, and it seemed they would put a target of at least 300. But the middle order didn’t stand much chance and they made 241/8 in 50 overs.

When England started batting, they had some early wicket fall. But Ben Stokes and Jos Butler revived the innings. The English team was able to tie the match.

In the last hour, the audience at Lord’s were biting their nails. The trill in the world cup final was just at it should have been. The super over, first time ever in a world cup final, also ended in a tie with 15 runs each.

England was declared the match winners as they hit more boundaries (26) in the match as compared to New Zealand (17).

Both teams played well and none was better than the other. It was England’s sheer luck to win the cup for the first time in World Cup History.
