P Chidambaram Arrested From His Home!
The Central Bureau of Investigation, CBI, has arrested the senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram from his Jor Bagh residence in New Delhi, yesterday night. Since Tuesday afternoon, Chidambaram had gone incommunicado, after Delhi High Court refused him anticipatory bail in Inx Media scam case.
Yesterday night, he made an appearance in the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters for a press conference. And immediately teams from CBI and Enforcement Directorate reached his house. To gain access, officials even scaled walls of his house and later arrested him. He was then taken to CBI Headquarters.
The former finance minister didn’t speak at all in the custody, to the officials or doctors who examined him. He was on interim protection from arrest, for the past two years. The Delhi High Court, on 20th August, decided against extending if further, when he applied plea in Supreme Court. But yesterday, Supreme Court didn’t give any relief to him and the hearing is now scheduled for Friday.
He is accused of corruption and misusing his position as a Finance Minister of India. During his tenure, irregularities were seen in FIPB clearance of Rs 3500 crore Aircel-Maxis deal and Rs.305 crore FDI in Inx Media. The leaders and party workers of Congress party have strongly come out in favor of Chidambaram.
