Microsoft’s Idea is a Boon to IT Firms!
It is rightly said that employee happiness is the important factor to increase the productivity of the company and it is proved now by Microsoft, one of the biggest IT companies! Microsoft Japan has tested a four-day workweek which resulted in not just employees’ happiness but also the productivity got raised by 40 percent! Microsoft experimented with a new project ‘Work-Life Choice Challenge Summer 2019’, giving its 2,300 employees 3 days off in a row without decreasing the pay, which led to a drastic increase in productivity.
The shortened workdays also led to efficient meetings and happy workers! The company had also planned to subsidize family vacations for employees up to ¥100,000 or $920, as a part of the program. “Work a short time, rest well and learn a lot. I want employees to think about and experience how they can achieve the same results with 20% less working time,” said Microsoft Japan president and CEO Takuya Hirano said in a statement.
In addition to this, the electricity use was down by 23% in the office and employees printed 59% fewer pages of paper during the trial. 92% of employees voted for the four-day workweek. As we all know that stress and pressure are the main problems for IT employees, especially in India. So, it is no wrong, if we say the experiment of Microsoft Japan is a boon to IT firms in India if they follow the same!
