Green Cards: Indians May Soon Skip The Long Queue For The US Green Card.
New legislation in the US may make it easier for Indians to obtain green cards.
As per the Times of India report, the Indian diaspora can pay a supplemental fee (commonly known as a "super fee") to get a head start on the green card backlog and obtain PR.
Reports also state that legal dreamers (children of H-1B holders who have aged out or will age out and who have turned 21) will also get a chance to obtain PR and citizenship, according to the portion of the Reconciliation Bill.
US Congressmen, including Raja Krishnamoorthi, urged their Congressional colleagues to support their move to employment-based Green Card backlog as part of budget reconciliation.
If included in the reconciliation package and passed into law, the move would help thousands of Indian IT professionals who are currently stuck in agonizing Green Card backlog. Several other lawmakers joined him in making such an appeal.
Any package that addresses longstanding immigration priorities must include relief for the approximately 1.2 million individuals unable to receive a Green Card primarily due to country-based discrimination, Krishnamoorthi said.
Under current law, the American economy cannot access the full international talent pool of high-skilled workers already present and working in the US today? Indeed, the lawmakers wrote that the very scientists, inventors, entrepreneurs, health care workers, and other professionals give the US its edge over its global competitors today.
